Description |
Notes with this photo: Paul and Fanny Hanna Moore Estate. The Moores were the owners of Hollow Hill Farm and Seaton Hackney Stables in Morristown, NJ. They were famous for breeding, training, and showing quality hackney horses. This 45 room mansion in the French Norman style was built for Paul Moore in 1913 by the architects Albro and Lindabury of New York. The house is 200 feet long, nearly four stories high, built of Hanover brick with a slate roof. Hollow Hill is approached by two long driveways that lead into a circular drive and courtyard and then continue to wind around the 52 acre estate. The back of the house looks out over sloping hills that descends to Woodland Avenue. It was discovered during construction that the hill had a sand pit in its center - thus the name Hollow Hill Farm. Rooms in the house are large with an interesting variety of doors and windows and fireplaces. There are wide halls, endless built in closets and shelving - and attractive nooks and crannies. |
