officials
informed

representatives
that the
question

slavery
had been
settled
by the
congress
of the
U.S
.

said that there could be
peace
, if the
Southern
people
would
lay
down their
arms
&
promised
executive
clemency
to the
erring
children
of the old
union
. These
terms
were
insulting
,
&
we will
stand
around our
flag
,
till
the last
hope
expires
.
